You knew it had to happen. The Caps were too good to be that bad. Wednesday the Caps put 5 tallies on the scoreboard against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Chris Clark was moved back up to the first line and contributed 2 goals including the game winner. Alex Ovechkin had a 3 point night (1G, 2A) and Dave Steckel scored his 1st career NHL goal. The Caps controlled Tampa's high scoring 1st line for much of the game. So frustrated was Vincent Lecavalier that after being checked by Shone Morrisonn he chopped him with his stick and initiated a fight. Lecavalier was given 19 minutes in penalties for the effort. Following Lecavalier's foray, Tampa tried to mount a come back with a goal by perennial Capital killer Martin St. Louis but were closed out with an empty net goal from Ovechkin.
