Capitals 1 Rangers 3

The Capitals lost to the New York Rangers 3 to 1 last night. The Caps gave up 3 power play goals in the first period. After not taking more than 4 penalties a game in the first three games they had 5 penalties in the first period last night. The Rangers scored first after Alex Ovechkin took a tripping penalty 10 seconds into the game. Ovechkin tied the score with a power play goal after Mike Green feed him the puck after being knocked down just inside the Rangers zone. After the goal, the penalties continued for the Caps and they never looked in sync all night.

Of Note:

  • Alex Ovechkin scored the 100th goal of his career. He has played 167 career games. His 201st point passes Jaromir Jagr and ties him with Rod Langway for 31st on the Captals All-Time scoring list.
  • Olie Kolzig stopped 38 of 41 shots on goal. The Caps managed only 25 shots on the Ranger net. Ovechkin recorded 7 shots on goal.
  • For the first time this season the Caps were beaten in face offs 27 to 31 (46.6%).
  • Mike Green and Tom Poti assisted on Ovechkin’s goal. It was the first point for Poti as a Capital.
