Capitals 2 Islanders 1

The Caps didn't have a particularly good day but with the help of Olie Kolzig were able to pull out the win. They were out shot 31 to 12 and the power play was shut down 0 for 6. The penalty killers were outstanding again not allowing a goal in 4 chances, including 1:34 of an Islander 5 on 3. It may have been ugly but they are 3-0-0 to start the year.

Of Note:
  • Alex Ovechkin and Viktor Kozlov continued their scoring ways connecting on the Capitals first goal. Both have points in all 3 Caps games.
  • Brooks Laich scored the game winning goal off of a rebound midway through the 3rd period.
  • The Caps did well again in the face off circle winning 55% of the draws. Boyd Gordon won 13 of 20.
  • Kolzig and Laich were named the first and second stars of the game.
