Capitals 3 Sabres 7

The Caps were beaten soundly by the Buffalo Sabres last night. While the Caps held a one to nil lead for more than half the game, the Sabres erupted for 4 goals in 6 minutes at the end of the second period. The Caps tried to pick up the slack in the third period but couldn't match the Sabres output.

Of Note:
  • Alex Ovechkin scored a power play goal in the third period. He is the only Cap with points in all five games.
  • Mike Green and Michal Nylander had 2 point nights, with each scoring a goal and recording an assist.
  • For the second game in a row the Caps took 8 minor penalties. They allowed 2 goals on 7 Buffalo power plays. The Caps were 1 for 4 with the man advantage.
  • Brent Johnson was under siege as Buffalo out shot the Caps 53 to 26. That's one shot every 1 minute 8 seconds.
  • The Capitals won the face off battle winning 39 of 65 (60%). David Steckel won 18 and lost 7.
  • Joe Motzko played his first game as a Capital.
  • The Caps might as well forget this road trip and start preparing for the NY Islanders who come to Verizon Center on Thursday.

Clymer was the last cut for the Capitals out of training camp. He is currently playing for the Cap's AHL affiliate, Hershey Bears.
