Capitals 1 Senators 2

The Capitals fell 2-1 to Ottawa last night to end their preseason action with a 3-3-1 record. The Caps played a very solid game but just couldn't get the puck to cross the goal line. With 35 shots on goal and 18 missed shots, several that hit goal posts and cross bar, the Caps controlled the puck for most of the night. They allowed Ottawa only 15 shots on goal. Although its only the preseason, the Capitals overall improvement compared to the last two seasons is like night and day. They look ready to compete this season.

Preseason Of Note:
  • The Capitals finished the preseason with a 3-3-1 record. The goal differential was 0, the Caps and opposition scoring 21 goals apiece.
  • Alex Ovechkin led the team in scoring with 7 points (3G-4A) playing in 4 games.
  • Victor Kozlov, Tomas Fleischmann, and Mike Green were tied for second with 6 points each.
  • The Caps Goalies finished with a team Goals Against Average of 2.96 and a Save Percentage of 0.873.
  • The Face Off Stats are incomplete but without the Sept. 26 Philly game the Caps won 188 and lost 171 draws. A 52.4% average.
  • David Steckel and Boyd Gordon led the Caps with 66.2% and 54.2% respectively.
  • The Caps took only 1 minor penalty in the last game vs. Ottawa
  • Again with the one Philly game missing, the leading + / - ratings were led by Viktor Kozlov, Mike Green, and Shaone Morrisonn with a plus-5.
  • Of the Caps 7 preseason games, 6 were decided by 1 goal. The Caps were 2-3-1 in those games.
Over the weekend, the Capitals placed RW Joe Motzko and D Josef Boumedienne on waivers. Both cleared and were reassigned to Hershey. According to Capitals Insider, D Jame Pollock has also been waived but must wait until Monday to clear. The Capitals now have 27 players on the roster, with Eric Fehr most likely going on the Injured Reserve list, 3 more players need to be reassigned, cut, or traded. A tough day ahead for GM George McPhee and Head Coach Glen Hanlon.
