Game #23 Recap - Capitals 3 Canadians 0

The Capitals, even with 7 regulars out of the lineup, took the fight to the Canadians. Add in a masterful performance by Jose Theodore and the Caps shutout the visitors 3-0. Theodore stopped all 28 shots he faced for his first clean sheet as a Capital and he did it against his former team. Tomas Fleischmann got the game winning goal on a nice defensive effort in the first period. Flash intercepted a breakout pass from the Montreal passed the puck to Michael Nylander who returned the puck for the put away. The Caps got goals in the third from Alex Ovechkin and David Steckel to seal the victory. The Caps now head to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets tonight. No rest for the weary.

Of Note:
  • Fleishmann has points in 4 consectutive games and 7 of his last 8.
  • Ovechkin extended his points scoring streak to 10 games and is now tied for 2nd in the NHL in 2 catagories with 13 goals and 30 points.
  • Sami Lepisto in his second game this season recorded his second assist. Nicklas Backstrom and Brooks Laich also recorded an assist each in the effort.
  • The Caps extended their home unbeaten streak to 9-0-1 this season. The mark is the best in the Eastern Conference.
  • Head Coach Bruce Boudreau got his 50th win as the Caps Bench Boss, the fastest ever in team history.
