Caps 3 Carolina 4 (OT)

The Capitals sent a young contingent of players to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday and they were stunned with 47.2 seconds left in overtime. The Canes Erik Cole deflected a shot that got by Caps netminder Michal Neuvirth. The Canes were on a two-man power play at the time and David Steckel of the Caps had broken his stick. Over all the Caps played well but didn't get the win.

Of Note:

• Mike Green scored unassisted in the first period , led the team in ice time with 25:03, had a plus-1 rating, 4 shots on goal, 2 hits and a blocked shot.
• Nicklas Backstrom scored a second period power play goal from Tomas Fleischmann and Chris Bourque, had 2 shots on goal, 1 hit and won 4 of 9 face offs.
• Ben Clymer scored a goal from Jame Pollock and Josef Boumedienne at 17:57 of the third period to give the Caps a 3-2 advantage and was involved in the only fight of the game, taking on the Cane's Nicolas Blanchard.
• Brent Johnson played two periods with out giving up a goal, he faced 12 shots in 40 minutes of action.
• Boyd Gordon did well in the face off dot, winning 16 of 30 draws. As did David Steckel winning 9 of 16.
  
• John Erskine was his usual self delivering 3 hits, blocking 3 shots, with a plus-1 rating.
• The big hitters for the Caps were Matt Pettinger and Chris Bourque, each recording 4 hits apiece.
