Game #20 Recap: Caps 0 Atlanta 5

Not much good to report for Caps fans in this one. Rookie goaltender Braden Holtby allowed 3 goals on 5 shots in the first period and that was pretty much the game. Michael Nuevirth came on in relief after 9:07 of play. He stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced but the vaunted Capitals offense was nowhere to be found. Washington lost for only the 5th time in regulation this season ending a string of games where they went 8-0-1. The team needs to leave this 5-0 whitewash in Atlanta as they to gear up to play the second place Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow at the Verizon Center.

Of Note:
  • Alexander Semin's 9-game point streak was snapped. Over those games Semin had 9 goals and 8 assists. On the night he managed 2 shots on goal and 2 takeaways.
  • Mike Green put in 19:46 of ice time with 4 shots on goal, 2 hits, and 2 blocked shots.
  • The power play was 0-3 but the penalty kill was 2 for 2 including 21-second of 5-on-3.
  • Jeff Schultz was credited with a game high 5 hits.
  • Don't look at the plus/minus as all Atlanta's goals came at even strength. Tyler Sloan took the worst hit at -4 with Semin and John Erskine right behind at -3.
  • That's a wrap, forget it and move on or click the link below for some Caps shot glasses.
