Off Note:
- The shoot out was the first of the season for the Capitals. Scoring for the Caps was Victor Kozlov, Nicklas Backstrom, and Boyd Gordon. Both Chris Clark and Alexander Semin were unable to participate due to injuries.
- Chris Clark scored the lone goal for the Capitals. It was an unassisted goal as he intercepted a pass from Steve Montador at the Florida blue line and ripped a slap shot past the goaltender.
- The Caps out shot Florida 33-29 with Alex Ovechkin registering 11 of Washington's shots. The Panther won the face-off battle 31-24.
- Olie Kolzig was solid in net making 28 saves. The only goal came on a Florida power play.
- Special teams saw the Caps go 0-5 with the man advantage and the Panthers were 1-5.
