Capitals Weekend - Capitals 3 Carolina 4, Capitals 2 Florida 1

Sorry for the little hiatus in my reporting but I was out of town the past weekend. The Caps took to the road for games with Carolina and Florida on the 30th and 1st. They looked like a team that had played 16 games in 31 days. Hopefully they can get a little rest before they head to beautiful downtown Newark on Friday. After suffering a 4-3 defeat to Carolina they held on to beat Florida 2-1. Alex Ovechkin is may be on the verge of another point laden run. Throughout his career he has done this with quite regularity, he will go from a point per game average to a streak of 6 to 8 games with ungodly point totals. Last season he had two 8-game stretches with 18 and 16 points. The last two games Alex has 5 points.

Of Note:
  • The Capitals recorded their highest shots on goal total of the season against Florida. They sent 43 shots on the Florida net. They are now averaging 30.44 shots per game. Unfortunately their shooting percentage is a meager 7.7%
  • The Caps did not allow a goal in 9 penalty killing situations in the last two games. In the last 6 games they have held opponents to 2 goals on 26 attempts (92.3%).
  • Michal Nylander played his 100th game as a Capital against Carolina and he recorded his 200th shot on goal as a Capital vs. Florida.
  • Quintin Laing made his Capitals debut against Carolina. In the two games he was credited with 8 blocked shots.
  • With 3 goals in the two games Alex Ovechkin is now second in the league in goals with 20 and tied for 8th in points with 32. He is on pace for 61 goals and 97 points. Now we just need the rest of the team to chip in. With 118 career goals Alex ties Guy Charron for 17th place on the Caps All-Time Goals list.
