In his 200th game with the Capitals, John Erskine pulled out all the stops as he nearly completed a Gordie Howe hat trick in a 6-4 victory over Atlanta. Erskine ripped a laser of a slap shot past Thrashers goalie Ondrej Pavelec for the game-winning goal, fought an epic bought with Eric Boulton in the second period but had an assist taken away on Washington's first goal in a scoring change. The rest of the game was just as crazy as bad hops, weird bounces and all around up and down play was the flavor of the night. The Caps started strong getting 3 goals in the first period for the first time this season only to roll over in the second and allow 3 against. The team buckled down in the third and in a grinding fashion worked hard and were rewarded with Erskine's blast. Atlanta never gave in but an empty net goal sealed the game and the Caps survive to win their 13th game on the season.
