The Capitals put in a solid effort for 61-minutes and picked up their 10th win of the season. In a match up for first place in the East, Washington battled back twice to tie the score and won it on the power play in overtime. The Caps, once again allowed the first goal on a 2-on-1 break in the first period but knotted the score at 1-1 when John Erskine made a nice indirect pass to Eric Fehr who beat the goalie with a wicked snap shot. In the second, the Flyers took the lead with a deflected slap shot. Washington went to the power play and Alexander Semin buried an insane pass from Nicklas Backstrom and the score was tied at 2-2. The Washington power play has come to life as of late and this would be the Flyers downfall later in the game. The Caps controlled the play for most of the night out shooting Philly 39 to 25. No goals were scored in the third but lat in the game with the Capitals pressing the Flyers Chris Pronger was called for a 4-minute hi-sticking infraction. Then with 19-seconds left in regulation Sean O'Donnell was called for boarding and the Caps had a two man advantage. 29-seconds into the overtime period Mike Green ended the game with a deflected slap shot. The Capitals power play went 10.5% in the first ten games but the last four is clicking at 41.2%. And finally congratulations to Braden Holtby. The rookie made his first start in the NHL and stopped 23 of 25 shots for his second victory of the season. Don't look now but the Capitals have won 4 in a row and taken over first place in the Eastern Conference. Yes, I am knocking on wood right now.
