that Semin deposited in the net to tie the game. A little over two minutes into the third period, Viktor Kozlov hit Ovechkin with a stretch pass and he beat Biron on a breakaway to give the Caps the lead 3-2 (see photo). The Caps didn't make it easy for themselves as they took a couple of penalties but were able to kill off a Philly 5-on-3 advantage. The Flyers were then sited for a too many men on the ice penalty. Sergei Fedorov made a nice chip pass to Brooks Laich in the high slot. As the defense drew to him he passed the puck to Ovechkin who blasted a one-timer into the net for a two goal lead. The Caps held off a late rush by the Flyers and the two teams meet again tomorrow in Washington for a deciding Game 7.
Of Note:
- Alex Ovechkin pumped 9 shots on goal for the game and scored 2 goals including his second game-winning goal of the series.
- Backstrom and Semin each had a goal and an assist each. Brooks Laich recorded 2 assists.
- Kozlov, Fedorov, and Erskine each had one assist.
- Erskine and Steve Eminger were both a plus-3 for the game. Erskine also had a game high 5 hits.
- The Caps out shot the Flyers 40-35 but were out drawn 35-27.
- After a tough start Cristobal Huet was solid in goal with 33 saves.
- In a rare occurrence both Ovechkin and Donald Brashear were held without a hit.
