The Hart Memorial Trophy is given to the player who is judged to be the most valuable to his team. There was no one more deserving than Alex Ovechkin this year. His stats are impressive 82 games played 65 goals, 47 assists for 112 points. He ranked 1st in the NHL in points, goals, power play goals, game-winning goals, shots on goal, and missed shots. He was also 7th in the league with a plus-28 rating, 9th in hits, and 9th in takeaways. Not to mention leading his team from last place to a Division Championship and the teams first playoff appearance in 5 long years. Ovechkin not only led the team statistically but emotionally as well. He absolutely loves this game and is a fierce competitor and the Caps would never have done so well without him. Kudos to Jarome Iginla and Evgeni Malkin for being named finalists, but this was Ovechkin's year.
