For the seventh consecutive game the Capitals come out the victors. As in 5 of the previous 6 the Caps won by just one goal. After giving up a goal to Carolina in the second period the Caps scored two in the third to come from behind and win it 2-1. Alexander Ovechkin scored the tying goal for the Capitals on a vintage Ovie wrister coming down the right wing. Marcus Johansson carried the puck over the blue line and dropped a pass that Ovechkin fired into the top left corner of the net. The Capitals then took the lead following a penalty kill when Matt Hendricks blocked a shot and the puck deflected to center ice. Just out of the box, Jason Arnott picked up the lose puck and headed in on a breakaway. Arnott was stoned by Carolina goalie Cam Ward but nobody picked up Hendricks who followed up the play and calmly knocked the rebound into the net giving the Caps the lead with twelve and a hafl minutes to play. Once again Braden Holtby was in net a was superb. He gave up 1 goal on 41 shots and made mare then a few great saves especially on the penalty kill.
