The Washington Capitals dropped their fourth consecutive game in a shutout to Florida last night 3-0. To be honest, the wasn't even that close. In the first period the Caps had 5 power play attempts including a lengthy 5-on-3. The Caps had 18 shots on goal but most came from the outside with little traffic in front. Alex Ovechkin came the closest when he rang the pipe behind Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun. Overall the Caps pumped 36 shots on goal but failed, for the third time this season, to score a single goal. The team is completely out of sorts at the moment and doesn't seem to be clicking on the smallest plays. The Capitals have two chances this weekend to turn the ship around starting with the Colorado Avalanche who come to town on Saturday.
Of Note:
- Semyon Varlamov stopped 29 of 33 shots in the loss.
- Eric Fehr, after being a healthy scratch on Monday, put 6 shots on goal to lead the Capitals. He will need to start finishing to stay on the ice.
- The Capitals ended up 0-8 on the power play and killed 5 of 6 Florida man-advantage situations.
- John Erskine and Mike Green led the team with 7 hits each.
- The Caps controlled the face-off dot, winning 34 of 61 draws. Boyd Gordon won 8 of 9 on the night.
- Karl Alzner was the only Washington defenseman not to a penalty.
